Nick Moran first worked with Border Crossings over 20 years ago, when we presented our first piece with Indigenous artists, BULLIE’S HOUSE. It was clear from the start that this was going to be a long-term collaboration. Nick not only understands very instinctively what the light needs to do in a scene – he’s also very sensitive to cultural nuance and open to the creative journey that comes from working closely with people from diverse backgrounds.
Every show we’ve done together has been specific and distinct. Very often these are devised pieces, which makes Nick one of the makers of the work in its totality, not simply the person who uses light to respond to a pre-determined authorial vision. THE MOUTH OF THE GODS, SUPPLIANTS OF SYRIA, RE-ORIENTATIONS, CONSUMED… Each one very different and each one extraordinarily lit.
